Fix pack

A fix pack is a bundle of fixes for a version of HCL Notes or Domino. It is named for example 14.5.1 FP1 and fixes bugs and security holes without giving a new version.

A fix pack is a bundle of fixes for a version of HCL Notes or Domino. It fixes bugs and closes security holes. It does not give you a new version, but makes the version you have better and safer.

How they are named

A fix pack is named after the version number and a running number. The first fix pack for version 14.5.1 is called 14.5.1 FP1. The next is called FP2. This is still the case, even though HCL now calls the version Notes 2026. It is the number you must use when you look for fixes at HCL or talk to support. Read more about the new names in Notes 2026 and Domino 2027.

Fix pack, interim fix and hotfix

  • Fix pack (FP): A larger bundle that comes a few times a year. It is widely tested.
  • Interim fix (IF): A smaller bundle with a few important fixes between two fix packs. It typically comes when there is a serious security hole.
  • Hotfix: A fix for a single bug that HCL support makes for a specific customer.

Why does it matter?

Many attacks hit known holes for which a fix already exists. A server without the latest fixes is therefore an easy target. Some fix packs also add small new features.

How to do it

  1. Read the list of fixes, and check if there are requirements for the operating system or other parts.
  2. Take a backup of the server and of important databases.
  3. Install the fix on a test server first.
  4. Roll it out to the rest of the servers and then to the clients.

We are happy to keep your servers up to date as part of our Domino operations and Notes support. Then it happens as planned and with server monitoring afterwards.
