Operations

Terms for running HCL Domino: ACL, Notes ID, replication, NSF files, Domino Directory and Domino IQ, explained for the people who run Notes.

A

  • ACL

ACL (Access Control List) is the access control list of a Notes database. It decides who may read, write, delete and change design, from no access to manager.

D

  • Domino Directory

Domino Directory is the heart of HCL Domino. The names.nsf database holds users, groups, servers and the server's settings.

  • Domino IQ

Domino IQ brings AI into HCL Domino. The server can run a language model itself, so Notes applications can use AI without sending data outside the organisation.

N

  • Notes ID

A Notes ID is the user's digital identity in HCL Notes: a file with certificates and keys used for login, encryption and signing.

  • NSF file

An NSF file is a Notes database. One file holds the data, the design and the access rules for a Notes application or a mailbox.

R

  • Replication

Replication is how Notes and Domino keep copies of a database synchronised between servers and clients, so users can work offline and data exists in several places.
