CCX licence

CCX is a cheaper add on to CCB for external users. They can work in your Notes applications up to Editor level, but get no mailbox of their own.

CCX is an add on to the CCB licence in HCL Domino. It is meant for external users, such as customers, suppliers and partners, who need to work in your Notes applications. CCX is cheaper than CCB, but it comes with limits.

What may a CCX user do?

  • Work in your applications up to the Editor level in the ACL. That means reading and editing documents.
  • Not create new applications.
  • Not have a mailbox of their own.

So CCX suits a customer portal, a supplier system or a shared project database. It does not suit someone who works in your company every day.

How is CCX counted?

CCX is counted differently from CCB. You look at how many external users were active in the busiest month. A licence can pass to another person after 30 days without use. That makes CCX flexible when many external users only log in now and then. CCX is always bought as a term licence.

CCX in practice

To be counted as CCX, users must be marked as external, and their rights must stay within the limit. If an external user is given Designer rights or a mailbox, the user must be counted as CCB. HCL's free tool DLAU shows how users are split between CCB and CCX.

Why does it matter?

Many companies count all users as CCB and pay too much. Others give external users too many rights without knowing it. A review of users and groups often saves money and makes access safer. Licence rules and prices may change, so always check with an HCL partner. Read more in our guide to HCL Domino licensing.
