GDPR Logger

GDPR Logger is a tool for HCL Notes that records who reads and changes personal data in Notes databases, so the company can document access under GDPR.

GDPR Logger is a tool for HCL Notes that records who reads and changes personal data in Notes databases. That lets the company document access, as GDPR requires, without building logging into every single application.

Why is logging necessary?

GDPR requires companies to show who has had access to personal data and that the access was justified. Notes has built in access control through ACL, but by default Notes does not log who has read a document. In an old Notes application with customer data or personnel files it is therefore hard to answer a data protection authority's questions.

What does GDPR Logger do?

  • Logs reading and changes of documents in selected databases with user, time and document.
  • Requires no change to the applications. The logger is installed on the server and enabled per database.
  • Searchable log, so you can look up a person or a document in a subject access request or a breach.
  • Reports for management and the DPO.
  • Clean up, where the log deletes entries itself after the agreed period.

Who uses it?

Public authorities, accountants, law firms and companies with personnel files in Notes. In other words, anyone with sensitive personal data in old Notes databases that cannot be moved tomorrow.

Common questions

What does GDPR Logger cost?

There is a free trial. The price after that depends on the number of servers.

Does it work on old Notes versions?

It requires Domino 9 or newer. We recommend Domino 14.

Does it affect server performance?

Marginally. Logging runs in the background and writes to a separate NSF database.

Can the log be used as evidence?

The log is read only for ordinary users and documents access with time stamps. It supports your documentation but does not replace a complete GDPR process.
