HCL Nomad runs Notes applications on iPhone, iPad, Android and in the browser, without installing the classic Notes client. It is the easiest way to give old Notes applications a new life on new devices.
How does HCL Nomad work?
Nomad is in practice a Notes client without a PC. It opens the same NSF databases as the full client and shows forms, views and buttons exactly as they were built in Domino Designer. That means an application from 2005 can be opened on an iPad today without rewriting.
There are two editions:
- Nomad Mobile is an app for iOS and Android with offline access through local replication.
- Nomad Web runs the Notes client in the browser through WebAssembly. The user simply opens a URL, and nothing needs to be installed.
Why does Nomad matter?
Many companies have decided to retire the Notes client on their PCs, but still have applications that are hard to replace. Nomad Web solves that. The IT department no longer maintains a thick client, and users get access from any device. That buys time to migrate the applications at a calm pace, or to keep them.
Limitations
Not everything works in Nomad. LotusScript that calls Windows DLLs, OLE integration with Office and older Java agents do not work. A review of the applications before rollout reveals what needs adjusting. It is usually a small job.
Common questions about HCL Nomad
Does Nomad require an extra licence?
No. Nomad is included in the Domino CCB licence.
Which Domino version does Nomad require?
Nomad Web requires Domino 12 or newer. Nomad Mobile can run against Domino 9.0.1 and newer, but we recommend Domino 14.
Can Nomad be used for mail?
Yes, but HCL Verse is a better choice for mail. Nomad is best for applications.
