Domino IQ brings AI into HCL Domino. The server can run a language model itself, so Notes applications can use AI without sending data outside the organisation. Domino IQ arrived with Domino 14.5 in 2025.
What can Domino IQ do?
Domino IQ is an AI service that runs on the Domino server and can be called from LotusScript, the formula language and Domino REST API. Typical tasks are:
- Summarising long documents, cases and mail threads.
- Classifying, for example setting category, priority or department on an enquiry.
- Extracting names, amounts and dates from free text and attachments.
- Writing help for replies to customer enquiries directly in the Notes application.
- Search in natural language across Notes databases.
Own model or external service
Domino IQ can run a local model on the server, for example a Llama or Mistral model, on a server with a GPU. That is the solution for companies that require data to stay in their own data centre. Alternatively Domino IQ can point to OpenAI, Azure OpenAI or another provider. We have built ChatGPT integration for HCL Notes since 2023, and Domino IQ now makes it easier to switch between local and external models without changing the application.
What does it require?
- Domino 14.5 or newer.
- A server with enough RAM and preferably a GPU if the model runs locally.
- A plan for which data the model may see and how answers are logged.
Common questions about Domino IQ
Does Domino IQ cost extra?
The core function is included in the Domino licence. The cost lies in hardware or in consumption at an external provider. Read about cost control of AI in Notes applications.
Are the answers reliable?
Language models can be wrong. Domino IQ should assist an employee, not make decisions alone. We always design solutions where a human approves.
Is it GDPR compliant?
With a local model, personal data never leaves the server. With an external provider you need a data processing agreement. We advise on both.
